Day Trip |
Take off from Athens and enjoy an exclusive private tour of Santorini |
The day starts with an early private transfer to the airport of Athens. Check in to your flight from Athens to Santorini, a flight of approximately 40 minutes.
Santorini is world famous for being the most beautiful of the Greek islands. The island was the epicentre of a massive volcano which erupted giving it the shape it has today. The amazing cliffs created by the eruption are one of the most impressive sights in Greece. Santorini is a major tourist destination, attracting worldwide travellers who come to experience its magical atmosphere and its breath-taking sunsets from the villages of Fira and Oia.
Your flight will land in Santorini early in the morning from Athens. At the airport your guide and driver will be waiting for you to set off on this amazing day trip. Start your day trip of Santorini with a visit to the mainland village of Pyrgos. This beautiful and well preserved village used to be the capital of the island; it located upon a hill top and has spectacular views of Santorini.
Next stop of the day tip is the site of Akrotiri. The pre-historic settlement of Akrotiri, one of the most important and well-preserved settlements in the Mediterranean which was covered by the ashes of the great volcanic eruption of 1600 B.C. Often called the Pompei of Greece, it was uncovered in 1967. Akrotiri site is housed within a cool protective structure and the pathways allow you to clearly understand the ancient city layout, including two-story structures, the extensive drainage systems and all the workings of an ancient city.
Time for a rest and lunch! A sumptuous lunch is arranged for you. The menu is traditional Santorini tastes and Mediterranean cuisine. Enjoy the Santorini local recipes and the local hospitality.
After lunch, continue to the southern point of the island and take time to enjoy the black sand beach. The unique beach was created by the volcanic debris. Free time at the beach for a quick swim before driving to the town of Oia.
Oia, the iconic village of Santorini, perched on the edge of an impressive cliff 260m high and offering a great panorama over the submerged volcano. The Cycladic style houses, the stepped streets, the blue domed churches and sun-bathed verandas make Oia one of the most beautiful island villages. Walk through the narrow streets, take in the views and relax at a local cafe.

FAQ |
Frequently asked Questions about the day trip to Santorini |
Q This is quite costly. Why? |
AThe one day trip to islands of the Aegean entail a flight to and from the island. Depending on the seasonality flights are obviously the costliest part of this great excursion. |
Q Why take a flight and not the boat? |
A Taking a boat from Athens to the Santorini is approximately a 6 hour journey, so it would not be possible to operate a one day tour without a flight. |
Q Any alternatives? |
A If you want to experience the Cycladic islands obviously you need to go to the actual island. Alternatively as a more budget oriented idea there is the one day cruise to three islands of the Saronic. The one day cruise will give you a ‘feel’ of the Greek islands, obviously much cheaper.
